Aight here's the deal. When I press the clutch and put it in reverse or 1st gear, it'll make noise. If it's cold it seems to do it from the moment I press the clutch and then for a few secs after releasing it. But say I stop at a store, run in grab something and come back out. Start the truck and go to put it in gear and you get these whining noise for the first 10 seconds or so of getting it into gear. Not a grinding sound at all really, more of a whining sound, and like you can hear the gears rotating slightly.

Hard to explain noises of course

I'm thinking throw out bearing or synchro. What do you think?

If it's the dang synchro, or something internal, it'll be ready for the RX-7 swap then Will the same throw out bearing work on the RX tranny?

It started doing this about 2 weeks or so ago. So this past weekend I changed the oil in the tranny. Then I was like "great" that fixed it cuz it was quite when I moved it in the yard, but didn't get time to drive it. Monday morning, soon as I started it up and pressed the clutch in it began.

what makes you think its the throwout bearing or a synchro?

No fluid leaking, and definitely not low as I just changed the fluid.

Reason I think those things:

1. It only seems to do it during engagement/release of the clutch. The thing that throws me off is it takes a few secs for the sound to go away after the clutch is pushed back in. Almost sounds like a spinning sound to some point.

2. Synchro possiblity due to it only being this way, it seems, going into 1st or reverse. Though it may possibly be starting in 2nd now, not completely sure. 1st seems a lil more "notchy" to get it into, or could be my imagination as well as it's never been fully "smooth" you knwo

Really imo it seems more the tranny. It doesn't seem to change with clutch in or out, it's more a matter of the switching into gears 1, and reverse.

Like tonight, I got home and tried it in the driveway. Got to first, nothing. Go to reverse and I'd hear it. Back to first, nothing, back to reverse hear it again. LEaned out the truck to try to hear it better. One time as long as I was on the clutch it continued while in reverse, but as soon as I released the clutch a little and you could feel the gear grab it stopped.

Sounds like a throwout bearing to me. Synchros usually don't make noise once they are engaged.

If you take of from a stop in 2nd or 3rd does it make the noise?

not that I've noticed.

The think that trips me is you would think it would be everytime I push the clutch in to switch gears, but it isn't Seems only 1st and reverse. Though I am noticing, I think, it's a lil harder to down shift as well, specially gettin into 2nd gear.

Well no matter what I do I guess I need to atleast buy the throwout bearing

1st and reverse have different synchro's. 1st and 2nd are the same, 3 and 4 are the same and 5 and reverse are the same synchro. could it possibly mean you need a new clutch? when you changed your fluid did you get a little on the clutch disc? that might cause it to quiet down a bit and slip more?

Just noticed today that it's doing it going into 2nd now for sure as well.

Don't believe it's the clutch as there is nothing else giving symptoms of a clutch going out. No slippage what so ever.

No way to get oil on the clutch while changing just the fluid, 2 totally different areas.

It almost sounds like: You know when you go in reverse and you hear it whine while backing up, the fast the louder? Well that's a similiar sound to this. Cept it's doing it just when putting it in gear and when you let off the clutch to start moving it stops. Though it will stop if just wait a few secs as well with the clutch still engaged. And the sound is a hair rougher than just the reverse whine.
