What happens if you are in nuetral, parked, and you push in the clutch? If it still makes the noise, it's the throwout bearing. If not it's something internal to the trans.

yeah could be the throwout bearing, could be galled or something.
about the fluid on the clutch, i know there in separate areas, but you know those people, that manage to do the randomest shit thinking that they are fixing stuff... you never know....

lol Speedster, yeah I know THOSE people

It doesn't make any noise at all like that Lime. That's what makes me question it all lol.

Heh, I'm at a loss. Sounds bad though

my old b2200 did that- it was the pilot bearing. tranny was just fine. I let mine go for awhile- it growled like a mo fo. Eventually it ate a little bit of the end of the input shaft. Once I replaced the pilot bearing it was fine though- no more noises.

Finally did it this weekend. Found that it was the pilot shaft bearing that seemed to be bad. It didn't turn smoothly and had some noise to it when I turned it. The release bearing seemed fine, smooth and noiseless.

Only thing I don't like now is the clutch pedal is softer and it releases as soon as I let it off the floor. It used to be perfectly in the middle. Oh well, driving it awhile now and we'll see if it gets better.

Much smoother shifting though
