Whats up guys. i jus bought a little 87 b2000, so i dont know much about it. Jus recently it started overheating, i figured maybe coolant, thermostat, fan or somthing minor. I checked coolant everything fine, i checked thermostat, and it didnt have one, a friend told me its okay to run no thermostat in the summer so i left it. The fan looks like its working fine, so i dont know, im kinda hoping its not the water pump but i dont know. I run the truck for about 30min out on a country road and it starts to heat up, the coolant fills up into the coolant resvoir. Any suggestings or comments please help me out. Also the head gasket is blown so I dont know if that could be a problem too.

Yes the blowen headgasket could be cuasing the problem as a matter of fact becuase of that you might now need to go ahead and buy a new head.

so go replace the head gasket and have the head checked out. replace if need be and put a thermostat in yes you can run without it but the system works better with it in even in the summer time. after you get that done if its still overheating then come back and go from there

sounds good thanks man, one more ? how would i know if the pump was no good?

water pumps have whats called a weep hole on the bottom side if waters coming from that then its bad if not then its most likly good but if it were me and i had to take the timing belt off (to change the head gasket) then replace it i think there 50 bucks also replace the timing belt you got it off for less than 20 bucks might as well replace it

igth yo it sounds like ur water pump u can tell if it is ur water pump after it worms up twist the cap of a lil bit and see if i has pressure its no ur head gasket unless it s pissing out the side or ur muffler so tap ur muffler and see it it has coolent or check ur oil if it is a white ish that means ur head gasket it blown but if there are the wrong plugs it can run hott but i doub its ur head gasket maybe running to lean but i dont think its ur head or gasket

he said it was blown not it might be blown and you can have a blown head gasket and not see it anywere but overheating it could leak water in the cylinders and burn the water off and cuase it to over heat

every check your Rad? Mine was starting to overheat abit, and my rad was deuterating into a chemical compond, basically, flakes of nothing, and wouldnt let the air though the Rad properly...That would be the issue, check the rad at the top and bottom, and inside and out...if its flaking away that would be the problem. if it was the head gasket, it would overheat completely and smoke like mad...just my 2 sense.

o yea check the rad and check ur intakemanifold for ne leaks b.c it ur intake manifold leaks then it rots out ur cooling system yea but if ur head gasket was blown adn it was burn water it would barly run and it would shoot coolant out the exhaust

ok i put in a brand new thermostat and checked the coolant. I dont think the head gasket is blown theres no sign in the coolant or oil so im guessing its not blown. There is a leak on the valve cover but thats not a problem right? I just test drove it to see if the thermostat made a diff. but nothing. The temp. gauge was about 3/4 high and going up, and when i turned the truck off the coolant flooded the resvoir. I dont know I was hoping not getting into major work but it looks like its going that way.

Check Your Rad....inside at the bottom is the most common place for it to deuterating and turn flakie, just run your fingers accross the Rad Vents lightly. and if it flakes away or looks like there may be some signs of corrosion that could be the issue. let us know...check both top and bottom, on the inside first and then top and bottom on the outside.
