Well if your sure its not the Head Gasket and water is not coming from the weep hole on the water pump then it could only be 2 things really like Madmazda said bad rad my 86 orginal one was cloged and blew its top (the top of it really blew off) then i got a cheap one from a junkyard and the fins were rotten on it it worked better but not good so i got a brand new one and soved all my problems which i still have and dont need anymore the 2nd would be a hose collapesing

Is there any way of testing the rad. besides checking to see if its rotten out?

you could check to see if the head gasket is blown, whiteish blue smoke at start up and it keep doing it and taking cap off radiator when ur truck is not running and cooled down then take cap off turn truck on after its cooled down if the anti-freeze shoots out everywere after about 30 seconds the head gasket is blown.

ok guys check this out, i was looking for the "weep hole" on the water pump jus like Pont had mentioned and I found this. I believe its suppose to be where the "weep hole" suppose to be but it looks like its been rigged and welded in. This is on the right hand side of the pump, right above the oil pan.

to low thats the oil pump the water pump is in the center of the motor on the front

second pully?

alright this dam thing is getting frustrating, so far checked the radiator, changed thermostat, check water pump see if leaking, checked hoses,... I ran the truck for about 10 min with the radiator cap off to see if it circulates water and it seems to be working fine. The fan is working but can it be a possibility its not enough, because I can slow it down and eventually stop it with my hand?? If i cant figure it out Im have to take it to a mechanic or something. Thanks for all the help guys, Im a newbie on this forum and you guys rock. Thanks

ok a good way to test the fan is like this drive down the road if it still gets hot its not the fan. you driving down the road will force enough air through it to cool the motor down heck i ran my 86 for months without a fan. the fan only really matters when your stoped. try some superflush if that helps some then your system is cloged (is it losing water just setting there)

if you have coolant overflowing in the overflow reservoir, then your radiator is mostlikely plugged.

if ever in its life, plain water was ran in that radiator, then it will have deposits in it from the water boiling and leaving residue such as calcium.

take the radiator out (easy, 4 bolts and clamps for radiator hose) and flush it reversely (shove a hose on the output side, which is the bottom port). you should see gunk come out of the radiator.

i'd just recommend taking the radiator to a shop so they can flush it thoroughly for you.

if this is not the problem, the only other problem would be the water pump, in which like Pont said, will bleed coolant through the weep hole if it has gone bad. another problem would be the fan clutch, BUT this will only cause your truck to overheat in standstill like traffic.

i'd bet my money on a clogged radiator if it is overheating while driving

Me too....but will see....Reverse flush it.
