Thanks to all for the help this far great knowing there is someplace to fall back on when I run out of ideas.

Is there anywhere that shows all the grounding points for me to check, I have a chilton and haynes manual but they are pretty lacking for pretty much everything. I'll make sure everything is good for that and then replace the coil as a last resort.

they are are all over the place...just look for loose wires around the engine bay lol

Mark's grounding points.
1. Fender by the battery
2. Engine block lower passenger side to frame rail to battery negative
3. Back of cylinder head to the firewall beside the heater coil hoses.
4. Carburator components ground in the intake manifold. Front of gas sight glass.
That's all I can remember.

hooray hunting for wires, this is gonna be a fun weekend

i swapped out the coil today, and stupidly didn't write down all the wiring and what not. so if someone could just verify where all the wires go that would be great

i've got 2 plugs off a yellow wire, 2 plugs off a blue and then 3 grounds.

i'm guessing it's 1 of each color to the positive side and then the 3 grounds to negative but if anyone could confirm that

Good guess-no cigar. All three of the grounds go to negative. Both yellow wires (one is yellow and one is yellow with a blue stripe)and one of the blue go to positive. On my truck, both of the blue wires plug into a harness that is attached to positive, but one of the blue comes back off the coil into a female housing that is not used.I assume then that only one blue wire needs to be attached. Hope this helps. BJ

it looks like 1 of the yellow and the blue connectors each are spliced off of the intial wire for each.

i tried connecting a single blue and a single yellow which is connected to the other yellow which runs to the little metal box fixed to the chassis (ballast reistor or something) and even like that it won't get spark so i have no idea as to what to do now

picture to the connectors

If u go back to Mark's post of 3 June ,it shows a picture of a coil with spade connectors on the positive and negative sides of the coil.On the negative side there are three ground wires all black that need to be plugged in there. On the positive side, there are three wires that also go there, one blue (the middle connector in ur picture) one yellow and one yellow with a blue stripe,The final or far right blue conector in ur picture is not used and can be taped up. I believe the ballast resistor on the front firewall is one of the black ground wires. This is how my 92 2200 is wired up at the coil.BJ

If it comes down to it, bring it to the shop.
