I have my engine out to put in another and noticed my Cat seems to be plugged up. I still have emissions for a few years and I don't have a lot of money to be buying a new one. What can I doto get more flow?

cut it in half, gut it, weld it back together, put it back on. my buddy did that 2 his 5.0. i personally cut mine off. mazdas are posta have 2, one under the cab and another right off the mani, i donno tho. -bf

Kinda depends on where u live. If u live in a place with emissions inspections, u may have to leave it on.The 2200's have a "pre-cat" right under the exhaust manifold and another cat under the cab.The "pre-cat" is usually the one that stops up, so I guess u can take a chance and gut it if u think u r truck will pass emissions with just the one cat. The other issue is that the o2 sensor is right above the pre cat so more flow thru a gutted cat might throw it off. Might check with someone who has gutted the pre cat and see if they had any o2 issues.BJ

you can gut the 1st cat out, but just make sure you keep the 2nd cat in. you mostlikely won't pass emissions, but it'll buy you some time.

i'd recommend either installing another cat after or before the main cat.

a cat will run you around 100 at autozone. but you can get one free at the city pound

i gave $89 for a pacesetter hi-flo converter for mine, tho i am putting their header on as well, but at least if i get pulled over the cop can't say there's no converter! the one off the manifold is the one that stopped up & caused my engine to go south!

I wish I could find a header for my truck. The Pacesetter will not work on an automatic.Anyone know of another solution other than making ur own using the stock manifold and some mandrel bent tubing?BJ

from what i understand from some of the guys on the site the pacesetter will work with the a/t, you just have to do some adjusting for clearance around the bellhousing. other than that, a piece of flat steel plate & some tubing & a welder & make your own.

By adjusting u mean application of a torch and some judicious banging with a ball peen hammer?Lol.Man it has been so long since I used a welder,I would probably weld my a-- to the truck. Lol.BJ

haha!, from what i understand it is the extension piece w/ the o2 bung that ties into the collector that won't clear the bell housing, you just leave it out & have a new piece bent when the exhaust gets put in, & if you need it get a new o2 bung welded on @ that point.
