glad to hear it wasn't the head it self!! good to do the preventive maintance while you've got it off....are you gonna put a new timing belt on it too?

Man nytrdr thanks for having my back. There was a wicked carbon buildup where the gasket was bad that I had to chisel off. IDK about the timing belt it looks pretty good. Would it be a good idea? It's at 134,000 miles.

If u r going to replace timing belt (every 60k) at 134k where u r I would also replace the water pump.It will save u some grief having to go back in and jerk all that front end crap off when(not if) the water pump starts to leak. They are only 35-40 buckx.BJ

tru tru ^^^^ what my man said, a little extra effort now will save some agrivation in the long run...if the belt hasn't been change in 134k yeah i'd deff change it, cause if it were to come apart it could destroy the engine internals.

Bump. Please tell me u were kidding about using a chisel to get carbon off the head.U should have been able to get it off with a putty knife or something a little less likely to score the head.If u put a big gouge in the head mating surface it is going to leak again only worse.BJ

lol yeah, used a putty knife but it took MUCH more effort to get that cleaned off. I got a timing belt and water pump ordered they should be here in the morning. Can one of you guys tell me the proper torque for the timing gear on the cam?

Camshaft sprocket bolt should be tightened to 35-48 pounds per the Manual.BJ

Does anyone have the part # for the gasket that goes between the exhaust manifold and the cat? All of the parts places are acting dumb.
