Most oil additives are a waste of money, period....I do agree with the seafoam for the ticks though...

I agree and Seafoam is not a additive its a cleaner you dont leave it in there cause if you do you will have lots of trouble

Oh yes I know that about the seafoam....I was just re itterating that it seems to work.

I was just making sure everyone knew that it is not a oil additive did not wont anyone to think they just pour it in and go for 3000 miles .

That would be rad....not like the b motors have enough problems already LOL

Any other stuff out there to use as an additive, and how about oil prefferences synthetic or whatever?

I use synthetic soleley on every one of my cars....but in all realities, if your motor is worn, or has any external leaks than synthetic is not for you....the detergents in it will clean out all of the carbon deposits and can cause more leakage....but on fresh motor( after the break in period ) synthetic is awesome....

I use Royal purple, but mobil 1 is good too....

I use Mobil1 on all my cars.I started using on my truck several years ago and no problems with it at all.I have also swapped the rear end oil to a synthetic as well as well as tranny fluid.I highly recommend synthetic even on hi mileage vehicles.BJ

I got some seafoam today, but I'm a li'l confused. I cant leave it in the oil? How long should I allow it to stay in there? The can says nothing about that stuff on it. My truck hasn't developped the rattle yet amazingly, & I'd like to keep it that way too.

ok, this is what i have learned through my dad and aviation schooling about oils. you really only want to use the seafoam if you want to clean the engine out. i would suggest using half the can right before you change the oil and drive it about 15 miles then change the oil. you can also use tranny fluid to clean the engine out. i personally wouldn't use more than 1qt. run the tranny fluid in the engine for about 500 miles and change it out with 3 qts oil and 1 qt lucas. i have learned that lucas is an awesome additive. i think everyone i know that races, rather it be a sprint car, drag car, or on the street uses lucas. i use it every oil change and i love it. it keeps the bearings oiled up real nice. from what i have learned in aviation schooling is that if your vehicle has been running on mineral oil for over 40 or 50 thousand miles you do not want to switch to fully synthetics. for the sole reason that it will wear you seals faster than just sticking with the mineral oil. i would suggest that if you just rebuilt the engine, break it in with straight 30 weight and then regular 10w30 for about 12000 miles then switch to fully synthetic with lucas stabilizor.

this is just my .02
