Has anyone tried running dual alternators. I dont want to mess with the stock alt since it hooks to the carb. Im thinking about running a 1 wire GM alt to a battery in the rear to run my air ride and my stereo. I have no problem fabricating brackets for it.

instead of doing that did you ever think of just running dual batteries and an isolator? thats what i had on my mazda, the alt is only hooked to the carb to engage teh choke, it wouldnt hurt it if you beefed up the alternator, there used to be a guy on ebay that sold a big ass alternator and brackets to fit the mazda, i will see if i can find his info again. i used to have a dual battery set up and this is what i had

red top ( to power basic truck functions )

stinger sp1700 deep cycle that ran 4 viair 450's a cadence 1500 watt amp, a cadence 400 watt amp ( also had a 5 farad capacitor hooked up for the stereo

and a stinger dual battery isolator

message me if oyu have any questions

I would do that, but I dont think it would run my stereo still. Im going to be running 4 Alpine MRD-1005s to 4 12" alpine Type Rs for now until I can get 2 RE XXXs. Ill also be running 2 Alpine F345s for mids and highs.

Im sure it will run it when just listening to music, but when Im going full tilt the electrical system isnt going to be able to keep up. Im also already running a red top.

depending on how much amperage all your amps draw you should still be able to get a way with the daul battery set up, your not going to be getting max current draw out of the amps at all times, and air ride compressors wont be running continous either, your call all together but i dont think it will hurt i have the dual battery isolator i just pulled from my truck and a 5 farad cadence cap i may be selling if oyur interested just hit me on message

I might be interested in that isolator. Dont need the caps though.

Well, if you want, you can ditch the stock. Hit up Wrangler alternators, and order one from them. Got mine for $400. 190 amps at 800 rpm. They have a bracket setup so you can fit it right into the factory spot! Perfect upgrade! You can put it in yourself, with no problem. Except if you have the same amperage as mine, you gotta upgrade your cables!

Hey you got any pics off the alternator installed on your truck.... I need a 190 amp alternator to power my oasis compressor........

hell if you run the stock alternator you should upgrade the cables.they are shit from the factory.

Im replacing all my battery cables with 0g anyways. I dont want to drop $400 on an alternator either. I want to keep the two electrical systems seperate if I can. That way I dont have to worry about burning up an alt and I know my truck will always start even if I leave the stereo running for a while without the truck running.

I had a 200 amp alt in my Nissan Frontier to run all my offroad lights, compressor, stereo and my winch... Needless to say it went out on me on the trail. If I hadnt of had the spare battery with me it would of been about a 15 mile hike back to the main road to get help. Ran the truck until the first one died, then ran the second one. It got us back to a gas station to wait for someone to come help us. Cell phones dont work in the mountains of colorado all the time. lol...

Haha! Yea, When I had the stock battery ground cable, my system was'nt doing too great. But now I have a shit load of 8ga. grounds plus the BIG 3 in 0 and 2ga. Not to mention, I truly believe an OPTIMA YELLOWTOP is the shit! I almost think its a must to buy a $160 battery! Having a bunch of alternators is only going to last you a while. Take up space, and money. Fabrication cost alot if get it done professionally.

$400 for an alternator, and in, in an hour it was electric! With my al.t I had to get a belt 2 inches longer.

I bet if you did all those operations only one at a time, your alt. and charging system would have been okay. at 2.5k rpm with my alt. it get to about 260 amps. Thats so much freakin' amperage, you don't want to think about being shocked! 200-250 amps, and you can support enough electricity for an ambulance.

Check out the alternator here:

I did'nt have my yellowtop in yet. My alternator basically showed me one day that it needed a battery upgrade! I forgot to take comparative pics before I put it in with my stock alt. It's about 2 1/2 times bigger than the stock.
