yeah, i'd use on of the top ones, if you were to use one of the bottoms ones, you could end up with a "swirling" of the fuel in the sump, & that could lead to a problem....also the sump should be mounted facing backwards, in conditions where you are running with just a little gas in the cell & under acceleration the fuel goes to the sump, whereas if you mounted it the other way when you took off, the fuel would wash out of the sump & run the pump out of fuel...the reason there is two fitting on the sump is for vehicles running a dual carb setup or one carb with two inlets....

as you say there were 3 lines from the factory tank to the engine compartment, i know one was the return, but i'm pretty sure that there were two lines that ran to the pump, and one line off of the pump to the filter, then to the carb.....can't as for sure though as it has been a while since i took all of that apart...

So I need to mount the two bottom fittings toward the cab? Or vise-versa?

So I am only going to use 2 of the 3 lines correct?

Return & Feed

What do I do wiht the other line??

Hmmm....

Thanks!

think the other line in question was just ran to the charcoal canister for emmisions, you can do away with it if thats what it is.

im not 100% sure, as i have a fuel injected truck, but on most carbed models thats how it is. i can get an OEM fuel diagram if it would help.

i think what he said is right, the third line goes from the charcoal to the tank??? would have to look @ my chiltons to make sure.....

mount the "sump" (two bottom fittings) facing the rear of the truck
use one of those fittings as the in to the pump, and one of the fittings on top of the cell as the return. now if you chose to run the charcoal canister, you will need to run it back to the other fitting on top of the cell if infact that is the way the third line runs..... also it is a good idea to put a check valve inbetween the cell and the pump, that way you won't get drain back & have to keep repriming the pump.....

Okay!

So I will rip out that dang Charcoal Canister and that will break it down to just two lines!

Feed & Return!

Also where am I going to get a check valve?? I no where to get one, ust what style/type do I need!

You guys have been a lot of help! Thank you so much!

I think I will get this kit from Summitt:

And probably get some extra braided hose just for the rest of the hose in the engine bay!

I can run all braided correct???

well, you beat me to it

as far as the braided line, it looks good & all, but it is expensive, i'm gonna plumb from the cell, check valve, to filter, to pump to frame rail with braided line, then run hard pipe down the frame & turn it up into the engine bay, the jump off the hard line to the 2nd filter with braided, then to the reg, and braided to the carbs and a piece of braid off the reg back to a hard line for the return back down the frame rail and a short piece of braid to the return inlet on the cell.....yada yada yada you get the picture...just glad to help....oh, if you decide to run some solid line, 8an=1/2", & 6an =3/8"

3 lines -
biggest one is fuel supply from tank to fuel filter, to carb.

Mid sized one is the fuel return from the pump

small one is the vent from tank to canister.

That is exactly what I was thinking about doing?

Just need a Union and Double-Flare the hard line!

I guess we will see how it goes!

Thanks guys!
