89 b22 do you have to drop the oil pan to change the rear main seal. i had someone change it but theres still oil leaking like a siv and it builds up in where the dust cover for the flywheels at. that is my last problem that i have and it getting to me i cant seem to find the source of the leak and i was sure it was the rear main seal. just wanted to know if you had to drop the oil pan to see if the guy did it right or not. thanks a million people for the awesome support on here

its leaking where the tranny and motor lines up at i am pretty sure its the rear main seal. so when i bought the rear main seal i also bought a brandnew clutch kit since i was going to have to pull the tranny. so in short my uncle said he had a mechanic that was pretty good in doing that kind of work. the mechanic called me up yesterday to pick up my truck and as soon as i get there he told me the it didnt leak no more. so i looked under the truck to take a look and i noticed droplets hanging where the motor and tranny lined up and i told him that i was going to take it for a spin before i took it and what do you know as soon as i get back from taking it for a spin it still leakd. what im trying to say is that i also looked at the oil pan and it didnt seem touched like he took it off. do you have to 100% take the oil pan down when you drop the tranny, take the clutch off and flywheel to put the rear main seal in the 89 b22? i hope he didnt take a short cut putting on the rear main seal. man this is my last problem i have to fix before i can pretty her all up.

yes you would have to pull the oil pan completely off because there is an oil splash shield between the oil pan and the main seals (whatever that thing is really called i don't know).

i'd be sure to get a seal from mazda, sometimes aftermarket seals & gaskets just won't work properly!
