hey guys my truck ticks very loudly when it is warm but when cold doesn't tick at all and actually runs better when cold? i don't think it's lifters they should get quieter when warmed up right?

could it by the oil pump low pressure when warmed up
spun bearing
badly worn lifters?

i got a FI 2.2

Might be your valves. If so, just get them adjusted. That should take care of the problem. It worked for me.

93 b2200 hydraulic valves no adjustments and they only usually make noise when cold?

how fast is the tick? if it's fast like double bass drums in a death metal song it might be something to do with the crankshaft/pistons/rods. if its slower it would be in your head - cam, lifters, valves, etc. the crank spins 2x as fast as the cam, so that can help narrow it down. did the problem just start one day outta the blue or has it kinda been leading up to now?

Hmm, now that I think of it, my truck ticks when its warm too... as far as I know, it does'nt matter... My engine is rebuilt completely. It just something you will have to get used to.

Those blasted hydraulic lifters...

Hey but as far as I know, you might have something wrong with your truck... But just to let you know, be aware that tick is our haunter of our trucks!

if my truck sits for a week or so without running it'll tick till it warms up but other than that it doesn't at all. maybe i am the lucky one with the silent mazda?

Mine ticks when it's cold at start up,and occasionally it'll tick when it's warm. I figure it's just the valves, because the truck runs fine. The tick is just a common Mazda problem as far as I know.

I used to have an Isuzu Rodeo with a 3.1 V6 and it ALWAYS ticked. I joined an Isuzu club and asked about it and got the reply "they all do it."

well i've got another b2200 and it doesn't tick at all at it has 270,000 km on it sometimes if it sits for the week it'll tick for 2 secs when i start it up

the truck that ticks i bought it that way when i bought it i took it out for a spin no ticking when i get off the highway at home it's ticking driving me nuts because it sounds like shit and the motor is overheating fairly easy now yay the joys of buying a used truck lol

im looking in to rebuilding a motor but if i only have to rebuild the top end the better it will be
