I was told from a buddy of mine that it could be the distributor heating up and shutting it down .... Yeah i'll have to run it up sometime next week ive been workin on it all week this week we just got done re doing the 4 link on it and moving the tabs up from the original location and putting my fuel cell in so i can get that nasty gas tank outta my bed ....

My gas gauge does that If I fill up it goes up to half full then goes to empty. Then it counts backwards from empty to about a half tank then drops back down to e! I thought it was cool cause I could be sitting at 3/4 of a tank but it would read a 1/4 of a tank so if somebody needed a ride they would give me gas money and I would stay at full!! I need to take my bed off and check out my sending unit I guess. Is that all it could be?

Possibly be the coil???

neither you distributor or coil as far ads i know overheat and stop working, have you changed your fuel filter?? checked your timing? your vacuum advance might be clogged on the distributor

Our distributor don't have apick up or any kind module on the bottom side of the distributor to heat up and go out. Like you buddies truck (probally chevy)
Check your filter, it doesn't matter how many you put on there' if your tank is shot you will get no where.
