I took a video of my engine which I fully rebuilt top and bottom end. I was wondering if this would give you any clues as to what the problem may be. Am I out 180? If so how do I go about fixing it? I am planning on bringing it to the shop tonight if I can't solve it myself. So more or less this is my last ditch effort....

Oh and by the way, it was only puffing 'smoke' out the carb when I pumped the gas, when it was just turning over and nothing else I was just turning the key...

sounds like ignition problems, check your spark plugs, disturbuter cap, plug wires, if you have a timing light check that 2

maybe piston rings or unbalanced crank
i say this because it shakes violently

Nice... the shop installed the rings and crank it better not be anything like that......

It is getting spark and everything fine.... The only thing that I know could be wrong is the timing. It is possibly out, I dont have a timing light so it will be going to the shop for that. Any other ideas?

Take out number 1 plug.Take coil wire off.Take dist cap off.Stick long thin lite object like soda straw in #1 plug hole (engine cold)..Have someone bump engine with key until straw is level and just starts to go the other way.Look at dist.Contact on rotor button should be aligned with #1 plug wire,i.e.TDC(about 10 oclock facing dist.).If not timing is off.BJ

If I can assume the cam to crank timing (timing belt) is correct, then the ignition timing is off (easy fix)! Just follow wise old man's advice , then use a timing light to set timing to approximately 6 degrees. Good luck.

p.s. if a pic os worth a thousand words, a video must be worth a million! Good call.

its 180 out, when it pushes gas/air out the carb its on the wrong stroke... just take your dist off rotate the rotor 180 degree and re install, a lot fof time whens shaking like that its turing over too fast... or bad motor mounts

Does anyone else concur that its out 180? Not to test your judgment slammedyota but I don't wanna screw something up more.

So what I should do by taking my distributer out and rotate the crank is what, rotate the crank when its at TDC all the way to the very bottom so the mark is at the bottom or is it when the line is all the way around and then back at TDC 180?

About the shaking, it is a brand new starter and the battery is brand new (red top optima) as of like 30min ago. So I will check but why would it be turning over too fast?

If I turn the 180 and lets say it didn't need it it wont hurt anything will it?

Oh BTW, just tried it with my new battery and it was cranking really nicely and spraying gas out the carb which was igniting and making nice fireballs. Guessing the gas out the carb means its out 180?
