RPM AND GEAR SHIFT

SO I HAVE A 90 B2200 WITH A 2.2L 4BANGER NO MODS TO THE ENGINE, 5 SPD MANUAL TRANS (IVE NEVER OWNED AN AUTO VEHICLE... BEEN DRIVING MANUAL TRANS VEHICLES SINCE 15 (7 YEARS).... OK WHEN IM COMING TO A STOP OR MAKING A TURN I USUALLY DOWN SHIFT AS WELL AS BRAKE WHEN SLOWING DOWN..... I USUALLY DOWN SHIFT TO 2ND AT AROUND 20-25 MPH..... WHEN I DO THIS IT MAKES A (GRINDING GEARS) NOISE.... SO AM I DOWN SHIFTING TO EARLY????? OR IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY TRANS????? ALSO WHEN IM TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE (USUALLY RUN A LIL OVER SPEED LIMIT [HEAVY FOOT]) IN 5TH GEAR..... IM GETTING ABOUT 90MPH@(AROUND)5200RPMS..... IM AFRAID TO GO ANY FASTER THEN THAT DUE TO HIGH RPMS...... IS THERE ANYWAY I COULD GET DIFFERENT GEARS FOR MY STOCK REAREND OR MAYBE EVEN DO A REAR END SWAP WITHOUT HAVING TO SPEND TO MUCH MONEY AND TIME????? (PLAN ON BAGGING, BODY DROPPING, ENGINE SWAPPING, INDEPEN. REAR ENDING IT SPRING OF 08 )

I always downshift on my '88, no grinding at all. 147K miles. I go 85 mph at fastest, but don't have a tach in it.

downshifting and grinding usually mean your synchros are giving, they are cheap and easy to fix...

you can put an rx-7 5th gear in your tranny and give you a good highway cruising gear.

im not even sure what your talking about here lol..... i know nothing about synchros..... i have knowledge on the rest of the mechanics just not synchros.....

can this be done without having to change alot of internal parts in the trans? and what year gear do i need to get?

thanks pont. kyrasis or k6 from mazdatruckin is a buddy of mine and we've been discussing this swap with my truck. as far as i know its just one gear and thats it. he can do the swap for you as well.

its not so much that.... id like to be able to pass people that piss me off (driving right at or under the speed limit) .... here in ga the speed limit on most interstates is 70-75 and you are allowed 10 over.... i know that i don't need to go any faster then 90 but even at 80 (which is hanging with traffic) the rpms are at 4700.... i don't like the fact of trying to run that speed at that high of an rpm.... i do get better gas millage even traveling at those speeds on the interstate then compaired to inner city driving (stop and go).... traffic in GA during the rush hours (6am-9am and then 3pm-5pm) sucks ass really bad... but when traffic is moving most people travel at speeds in excess of 75.... so if i run 70-75 (4000rpms) i have to get out of peoples way or im going to get ran over...... i don't know how it is in the state you live in (try driving through atlanta) but id like to be able to travel in atlanta without getting ran over (oh and btw im running a z rated tire (100+mph)
