Has anyone done this on here?

Doesn't matter if its the 2.6L FI or Carb just wondering what I am looking at...

I need to rebuild the 2.2L, but wondering if I should just go ahead and upgrade while im there....

Well, this kind of broad for advice... Looking at the two engines, I would say the 2.6 would fit. The catch is that the motor mounts are diff. from what I recall..

In order to do the swap, I would say the 2.6 would need the tranny as well. I'm also betting the driveshaft is diff. This would be alot easier to do for 2wd than 4wd...

Do you want the 2.6 cause its FI? .4L is a waste of work IMO!

The 2.2 is good, IMO, just get a Weber, and convert the hydraulic lifters to solid ones. If you need it rebuilt, I got mine done for $1200.

It will fit fine just swap the motor mounts. You have to use the 2.6 tranny because the 2.2 one is different. Only difference between the driveshafts is the part that goes in the tranny on the 2.6 is bigger.

as they said, the motor mount are different, both ends of the driveshaft will have to be modified if i'm not mistaken, you'll deff need the 2.6 tranny, and lastly the ecus especially on the fi models are tempremental.....

if it were me, i'd just get a rebuild 2.2 & put in it, or if you want & have time the kia engine is a waaaay better choice for a swap not only because it is fairly simple mechanicaly, same motor mount, tranny, driveshaft, worst part is wiring, and that can be made simple by just using the stock ecu & harness, and there are aftermarket parts available for the kia engine, virtually none for the 2.6, they are worse than a 2.2 to find parts for!
but hey that just my .02

Which KIA Engine are we talking about?

95-00 kia sportage, they have the same 2.0 block as the early b2200's, but it is a 16v head, @140hp in stock form look at some of madlowmazda's post, he has one with a stand alone ecu, which is a little more of an issue with the wiring, but gives you a lot of tuneability.....also fe3couriers done this swap too, and a couple other guys are in prog of this swap or wanting to do it.....put it this way, for @$1200 you can get a decent low mileage engine with the harness & ecu, and in a long weekends time could have it swapped in....

any particular kia sportage model? or are the engines all the same? i'm interested in this swap one of these days!

I think there all the same motor from 95 to 02 as long as it says 2.0 DOHC. One day Ill have one and I cant wait.

What concerns is their with this and emissions? Do they nor run VIN numbers to match the right engine with the vehicle?

not true.

the output spline of the two boxs is not only different in diameter but also spline count.

the spline between the first and second halves is also different. get a whole b2600 driveshaft with the box IF you do it. i dont know about your usa spec small diffs flange, it may be different too. but, the 2600 driveshaft dropped right into my truck with zero isses with my big box.

having said all that, nightrider is correct, the kia swap is vastly better.

i'm pretty sure it made less than 140hp, but more than 130. either way, it has the potential to make a lot more with a better intake and exhaust manifold and if you really go wild a pair of cams. the jap ones make 140ps - 165ps or 138hp to 162hp or so. with boost you can get whatever you want. 300hp is easily done though. a stock kia motor in good condition with a couple of small mods and external stuff will do that piece of piss. from there you need more bits, but people have made 800hp from them :-) mines over 350hp crank.
