Seriously considering swaping from my stock tank to a fuel cell, mounted up front of the bed, because my stock tank rests about 2-3" off the ground and it makes me uncomfortable. Can anyone tell me what is involved? How is the tank hooked up, etc? Just curious how you fill it with a bed cover, etc.

Any info, or links to a good place to buy the fuel cell is appreciated.

I bought mine from Summit...its a 15 gallon aluminum with a GM sender

Its super easy to plumb it to your stock setup, the only problem you will have is the sending unit. I have after market gauges so my fuel level gauge is for a GM sending unit. But if you are keeping your stock gauges you'll need to find on that is close to the same ohm range...I think you can use a GM unit, but it will read backwards on your gauge (Empty=Full vise versa)

They are 2 lines involved. Feed and Return. You'll have a third line that runs to the charcoal canister, but its just for emissions venting. So you will have to cap one bung and the other is a roll over vent that you can just slap a breather filter on.

I plumbed mine with hardline, but you can use rubber and braided. You will be using AN Fittings which can be confusing, but if I were you I would try and get a fuel cell that has -6AN which is the equivalent to 3/8" which is plenty big enough. Make sure you put a return fuel filter inline somewhere as well as the stock fuel filter.

Oh I forgot if you are running a mechanical fuel pump an inline check valve wouldn't hurt..

I don't have one,but every once in awhile it takes a second to get fuel in the lines, since the mechanical doesn't cycle like an electric..

Also try and get one that is foam filled to prevent sloshing which can be dangerous...

It does actually. Most of that is greek, but I think I got the jist. I'm looking on Summit right now actually, and they have a pretty damn good selection. No problem with the pump or anything?

I haven't had a problem with my pump at all, and like I said I don't have a check valve either...

Check out this link, it might help:

I had a friend with a foam filled one and swore the foam was breaking down and screwing up his lines and pump. That worries me. What year B's have electric pumps vs mechanical? Mine is an 89.

I measured the depth of my stock gas tank, which was I think about 11" deep, and bought a plastic or poly or what ever they are made of fuel cell from jegs or summit that was the same depth as the stock tank. I took the gm sending unit out and cut the existing hole a little bigger and used my stock sending unit so my gauge would work correctly.

Mine is an '89 and its mechanical...I am carbed though...

FI models I think would be Electric..

That foam does break down over time about 2 to 3 years they say change it...just keep an eye on the filter you will start seeing small pieces in it.
