you should be alright as long as your mounting it in the bed of the truck.

I want to, but on my truck the fuel pump is in the tank, right? So then I should add an external pump?

double check on the back passenger side of the head that there isn't a mech pump, if i'm not mistaken the ext cabs in tank pump is just to supplement the mech one...if that is the case, you'll be fine just using the mech pump, you just don't want to mount the cell much lower than the pump otherwise it will have a hard time overcoming gravity...best thing to do is to put a check valve in line inbetween the cell & pump so the line doesn't empty if it sits for a minute or two.
