i just bought a complete 12a for really cheap the other day to go in my bagged mazda. just yesterday the motor in my daily mazda just went tits up on me and im probably gonna swap it in that mazda real soon. i know quite a bit about doin swaps but i have a short timetable on getting this done so any input will help. i know about swappin the bell housing on the rx7 tranny to the b-series tranny which is what ill do for now. the motor mounts look pretty simple.

the main thing im lookin for right now is people who have done the swap and ran into anything difficult. he also gave me a Racingbeat header for it but it looks like itll clear the cab. so far everything is lookin really simple to me but i dont want to get tooo optomistic. thanks.

Just make sure that the header isn't on the engine till you have it mounted properly.Plus you will have to cut off 1/2" of the splined section on the input shaft to bolt the tranny to the motor. Also make sure you don't ground your coils or you will have ignition problems.I made that mistake the first time.Otherwise have fun.

Hey racer x do you have pics of you engine bay? Id like to see some of the 13b in there.

i didnt know about cutting 1/2" of the input shaft before. can the tranny still be used on a truck motor later on after being cut.

what do you mean about grounding the coil"s"? i thought the 12a only used 1 coil to the distributer unlike the coil packs on a 13b.

your right, the 12a shouldn't have individual coil packs.....& I don't think that there is an issue with the trucks tranny and the 12a tranny....just measure to check the input shafts length, if there is a difference, then I might trim the 1/2", you might consider just using the rx's tranny if the tail section has the shifter tower in the same location (can't remember)....
1st-4th gears are the same in the trannys, 5th is geared a little taller which would give you better gas mileage on the highway.

im plannin on usin the rx7s tranny when i put it in my other mazda. i hate the gearing in the truck tranny. but my daily's motor blew up and im probably gonna drop it in real quick for a few months till the back-halfs done on the other.

You WILL need to cut that 1/2" off or you use the 7's tranny with the trucks tailsection. The 7's gears are better for highway driving. As for the coils there will be 2 if you run a stock ignition or 3 if you Direct Fire the leading plugs for better startup and throttle response. You'll need 1 coil for the trailing and 1 coil for the leading. Then make a harness to wire your ignitors to your coils. The ignitors are the little black boxes on the side of your distributor.Coils have a + and a - side.Don't ground the coils with a rotary.Trust me I made this mistake and it forced me to buy new coils.I am running 2 blaster 2 coils on the leading and a stock one on the trailing

I might be able to get a couple if the snow stops tommorow. This thing is fun in the snow.

Forgot to mention. You'll also need a fuel pump as well.B-series trucks have mechanical pumps unless its a EFI truck.
