if someone said this...and it will apply 2 me. right now i am runnin 2 leafs on each side...after it gets outa the shop i was gona mono it but they said

"........In the rear pull all of the leaf springs out except for the main long one and throw in a 3" or 4" block. While some people claim this is dangerous and say that they will break....I have yet to see this. I have had 3 Mazdas lowered like this, and my younger brother has had 2.(Don't be dropping the clutch to burn your tires and it won't put the excessive stress on the spring.....which I guess will break it) I don't beat on my trucks so I have never had the problem"

will it really bend my mono? if so, what if i welded like 1/4" plate like 3" long 2 each end of the spring right by the mount for extra support?
thanks - fanninator

your pretty safe if you dont try to act like a hardass in your truck or hit sides alot,i wouldnt recommend welding on it cuz it might make it more prone to cracking or snapping.

i had mine setup with the main leaf w/helper spring for a long time, but didn't like the ride quality. i then bought some aftermarket lowered mono leafs, definately the best money i'd spent on the rear. didn't have to put to tall of block under rear and definately rode alot better.

Don't weld to the spring they don't call it spring steel for nothing it gets week when welded on!

basically like heating coil springs in the old days so you could lower a front end.

before my mazda was bagged it had air shocks with a mono leaf. because of the going up and down I broke one one day and when I was pulling over the second one broke, so it can happen

I rode static mono leaf with 3 inch blocks for 3 months and then I rode bagged over axle monoleaf for like 6 months. I had no problems with springs breaking but the ride does suck major ass donkey balls. Axle wrap is a bitch and now that I look back at it I would never do that way again. But thats just me

Mono and static is ok... but it can/will break depending how much stress it on the springs. The best way to do it is find a machine or spring shop w/ a press.. and have them de arch your entire spring pack w/ a 20 ton press. It will flatten out your entire spring pack and be strong enough to support the weight but will be flat for the lowering. Your shackles will adjust and kick out due to it being slightly longer.

hum. well i donno if i still have all me leafs or not, ill hafta findem if i cant im just gona take a chance haha. would dearchin 2 or 3 be safe? also how much $$ we talkin for the machine shop?

it depends on the shop you go to.. also depends how cool the workers are. It usually costs around 20 bux PER leaf pack here in FL. So around 40-50 bux. It will cost u more than that to replace the leaf spring if/when it snaps from a junk yard.
