Alright, to start off my truck has 3" blocks, mono leaf and no torsions. My trouble actually is that my tranny doesn't want to down shift. It will up shift fine, just not down. Is this due to the pinion angle? If so what is the correct angle, and how to I find the angle? I know that I will have to shim it, but how do I find the angle to shim it to? Any help is greatful, Thanx in advance

Did the tranny start giving u problems immediately after u dropped the truck or has it just developed.?AN extreme pinion angle will cause premature wear of the rear tailshaft bearing in the tranny and the front seal in the diff, but doubt that it would affect the downshift of the tranny.Mazda A/T's operate off vacuum, hydraulic pressure and have electric overdrives,so I would start by ckecking for vacuum leaks at the carb and tranny first. Also, whens the lastime u changed ur tranny fluid?A good flush and fill with synthetic tranny fluid might be in order.BJ

pinion angle should be around 3* positive (up in front) it should be ok anywhere from like 0-7 degrees. but try to get close to 3*

oh and how you measure it... at sears they sell a circular angle finder for around ten dollars. put it on your pinion yolk face and see what the angle finder points to.
i can't post the pic so here's what i'm talking about.

thanks speedster, also the post on the a/t, mine is a five speed, guess I should have put that in there. Actually the prob started after I took the truck out of gear and was coasting down a hill, hasn't been right since then. Thanx for all the help guys

If u cant manually downshift the tranny, probably bad sychronizers in the tranny , bad clutch and throwout bearing or bent shift linkage.BJ
