i dont think that the width would be an issue because hes putting the mazda frame horns back on to its more like hes taking the s10 frame section where at the suspension is and welding it in place of the mazda's.

yea, i was worried about the spindle to spindle width to, but i think im going to have to narrow the frame by about 1 1/2 inchs on botch sides for some decent looking 22's, and keep the stock sheetmetal, i dont want 4x4 fenders at all.

I hate to be the guy that pisses on the parade, but...

An S10 axle is not stronger than a Toyota axle. Its a 10 bolt. Its the weakest axle GM ever made, period. It has tiny axle shafts. They've been known to snap behind stock V6s and mild V8s. Toyotas have held up to worse, in rock crawling even where the conditions are worse.

Also, think about this with the S10 clip. S10s are wider than Mazdas, and Mazdas already have trouble tucking as it is. A Toyota axle could be had for $100 at a junkyard, and you can get one thats roughly 6 inches narrower than a stock Mazda axle. 73-78 is the narrowest Toyota axle. And if you get the Early Toyota suspension, its narrow as well, and works. The geometry is superior to the S10 geometry. S10s get negative camber laid out, positive during travel, and negative at lift again.

does it matter what year of toyota spindle. ru you talking that the 73-78 front spindle would be narrower then like the 90 spindle setup?

so what should i actually do to the front setup? im not worried about the back, its just a 4 banger in there and i can narrow the rear no problem. im just looking for something good for the front with readily avalible parts for 22's.

I was saying to use the entire front clip. If you just use an early spindle its not going to be much different than putting a later Toyota spindle on Mazda arms. Either way you're going to get bump steer and its not going to handle right.

If you're going to swap a front clip, I'd run something thats narrow stock, such as a 73-78 Toyota suspension. Its modeled after early C10 suspension. Its easy to bag and works well and doesn't get bad bump steer at any height.

Josh I'm not going to tell you what to do. I'm just throwing out options for you to think about, that may or may not save you a headache.

I was also just throwing the idea of a 73-78 Toyota axle because its already narrow. They're around $100 at a junkyard. If you buy a chevy axle, theres $100, plus $150 to narrow the housing, or do it yourself, then $300 for new axles. When you could have had a similar setup for less money. Also a better looking housing.

i know you are trying to help me out, i didnt mean to sound dick about it if i did. i was just wondering what front to swap that can get the drop for 22's. that why i asked to get help, didnt mean to sound like a know it all. plus i was just saying becuse i already have the s10 rolling frame.

I'm just recommending the early Toyota stuff because it is narrow and works well. And drop arms could be built for it quite easily. It looks a lot like S10 suspension. I'm sure you could lay it on 22s. I've cycled it for a 28" tire, which isn't too shy of a 22.

You could attempt to narrow the S10 clip. But its a risk, trying to do it straight enough.
