I dont know if you can handle it man....284,423 is where its at right now. I should give the truck some slack for being older then me.

well i guess i never mention my dad has been a certified tech for ford for over 10 years.....ill make him look at it..I was thinking today it has to be the cluster..today for about 2 miles it seemed to work correctly bu then it went bouncing again.

did you look at where it connect to the tranny......mayby the output on the tranny side is messed up

where the cable goes into the tranny there is a green nylon drive gear that interfaces with a metal tranny gear.On a truck with that many miles, the nylon gear is worn to the point that it is engaging and disengaging which causes speedo needle bounce as yu describe.pull the cable out,go to ur friendly Maz place and get u a new gear or someone on here may have one.I sold a cable with a NEW gear on it to someone on here and the cable broke. They probably will sell u the new gear.BJ

^^ thats what i thought too hoc, but he said when traveling at 60 it bounces up to 70. what would make it read faster AND slower than your actual speed?

did you ever get this fixed? im having the same problem right now. Im leaning towards the gear in the tranny. Any input would greatly be appreciated.

actually last weekend i was at the junkyard to get a new fan and shroud (kinda rear ended someone) and found a cluster with a tach and pulled it just to see how much it would be and put it in and my speedo works now so it was the cluster...kinda funny cause i was just like screw it and got good at judging my speed.. i only got the cluster cause it had the tach and it was like 10 bucks.. and it fixed it so try that?
