one other little tidbit
with a little reinforcing on the upper shock mount there are air shocks available for the mustangs.

Monroe part # MA756
measurements
collapsed = 10.25"
extended = 16.375"
travel = 6.125"

*may also need trimming of the upper control arm

Hey jester,

Just bought a set of those MA756's today on ebay.I will let you know how they work on these trucks.Do you think I should leave my torsions in with air shocks?I'll post pics when they arrive.

I think it would be wise to leave the torsion bars in. I'd say slam it to desired height (re-index torsions, flip BJ's, etc..) then just use the air shocks with a minimum pressure for normal use (not recommended to run empty) and add pressure when lift is needed ( speed bumps etc...). I just wouldn't trust them to be the only suspension on the truck. They aren't rated for the kind of load airsbags are. I just figured that they would be a good addition to a really low static dropped truck. But I digress, let us know how they work out for ya

ok i was looking at napa shocks and i found that i the stock rear ones they sell for mazda is 13.375" when compressed. the stock rear ones for a 77 beetle look exactly the same but are 10.375"when commpressed. does anyone know the size of like belltech or any other brand name drop shocks?

also, beetle front shocks are longer than stock mazda when compressed and they only have 2 inches of travel while mazda has 5.

can someone take a look at mazda and 77 beetle shocks at napa and tell me if you think they would fit? i was looking at the cheap one that are like 14.95 or somehting

Procomp Toxic drop shocks. Worth every penny.

They ride soooo nice.

ok i'm changing my question to why i need drop shocks in the rear. i'm talking about the rear. i put 3 inch block in and after looking at the setup for a while, i dont think taht the shock mount got moved. its in the same place i think. just the axel got moved. am i right? and my leaf spring is stock. so i dont think i need shorter shocks in the rear if i have a stock leaf spring. or am i a complete idiot and forgeting something obvious?

No,All you did was move the axle.Shocks will stay OEM lengths.Mine has 5" angled blocks and I redid the shock mounts so I can still use the OEM lengths and keep my air shocks on the back.Mine is also mono leafed as well tho.

oh so i am right? i dont need drop shocks in the rear?
racer x   +1y
Nope.You only moved your axel not the shocks themselves.I have 5" blocks with a mono leaf and still run B2200 rear shocks.

Just tried the Mustang II shocks and the air shocks won't work.Unless you cut the bump stop off and make a set of tubular upper control arms then it will prolly work.If I was going to keep this truck then I would use them but its for sale in the paper with a few other b-series trucks locally.Hope I sell it soon.
