yeah i'm really serious into riding bmx bikes and most of the high end quality bike manufactures quit chroming their products because the process weakens the metal and it gets weaker and weaker more quicky when stress is applied each time.
i read a big article about it, it twas interesting.

I too have a 5 gallon 4 port stainless tank. I dont think I'm going to be using it after seeing that. How do you know if its DOT aproved?

Also guys remember to drain your air tanks of any water regularly no matter what the tank is made of. A steel tank that is severly rusted inside can also explode.

There will be a DOT stamp on the tank, usually on the bottom or on one of the mounting straps...

the thing that really got me was that the tank was BRAND NEW. it only had 150 psi in it for 30 min. all that rust inside of it was because of the acid in the process of chroming the tank.
