I drive a 2600, the axle is not shorter. I already "test fitted" the wheels and they will not tuck, I am going to have to flare the bedside to make'em tuck, until I find a 4x4 bed at least. Maybe the 4x4 axle is different but not the 2WD. And about the tabs, they do not hold the wheel in place, it only aligns the holes....easier, the lug nuts hold the wheel in place, obviously. As for it not being safe, I have run too many aftermarket wheels over the years that didn't have correctly sized, (or should I say fitted??) centerbores. I do not believe they will tow your ride if you grind your tabs, because I dont remember seeing even one aftermarket wheel with the same bore as the original wheels. The bores are always larger on aftermarket wheels so they will fit more vehicles. There might be some very specific laws in certain states, but here in Texas not according to that. I know in Australia, it would be illegal to do anything to your ride, Canada...you tell us. As for low on horsepower...compared to what? The FI 2.6 pushes 121 hp "STOCK", which is more than the 2.0, 2.2, and the carb'd 2.6. And there are "things" you can do to make that number go up, without touching the internals or forcing induction... I did.
