The best thing to do when doing a Z on an import truck is to pull the bolt in engine crossmember and make a new one or plate the stock one. You can add a plate under it and angle the ends to prevent it from catching anything while dragging. You can also make bolt on plates that you can drag until they are worn down then replace them. add in some titanium plates and throw colorful sparks.

So what do you do with the steering shaft. Looks like it will hit the frame when its all said and done.

Actually no it doesn't hit. You are not moving anything up front. It stays right where it is. My UCA is notched slightly for the steering shaft for when fully layed out but thats it. I will try to post some better pics tonight for you!!

Ya, I'm gonna have steering issues. . Because of my bodydrop. . . But I will deal with that when need be. . I may have to make some tubular arms for the front. . idk yet. .

Josh- I forgot that you are going down to the doors on your bodydrop. Ya you will have issues with the steering. I am only down 1.5" and was answering because of that. My bad, sorry guys!

this maybe my newbie questions but what is the reason for z'ing the frame here? im just trying to catch up i know s10's but have never done a mazda and i am in the process of doing my first now...

Basicly you do it cause it won't lay out flat. The front crossmember hangs about 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch below the frame. So that holds you up. By z'ing it you move it up so the frame will lay flat. Their are other reasons to but I think that is the most common reason.

Yep. . What ^^^ said. . . Some people drag off the crossmembers or section the crossmember but dragging it off is hacked. . and i dont care for sectioning the crossmember. . Also, if you Z the frame, it makes it so the suspension doesnt have to cycle so far out of the normal operating range. . which will make it perform better. . .

if your going thru the trouble to cut the stock one off you should just add one of these:

already set up with 5 lug, narrowed track width for a larger offset rim... that's what i'm talking about!!! lol
