It may have been done and worked ok but I would not expect the shock towers to support the weight of the vehicle itself without some good bracing, gussets, boxing in etc...

Just by looking at the picture above with the coilover coming through the bed floor looks weak to me... there's not enough bracing to keep it solid, atleast from what I can tell in the picture.

I've been thinking and thinking about this ever since I saw it, lol.
Strip it down to chassis.
Get a chalk board and some clever friends around.
You've got fabrication to do!
Draw lots of vector arrows.
Make it the least amount of fabrication by hitting the junk yard and seeing something you like that'll fit once you fab up mounting points. RX7 for irs has been done, and done on here. Do we have reviews of the improvements?
Short arm/long arm looks compact or semi trailing rear arm which the rx7 is right? I'm thinking e30 layouts, lol.
Front set up?
Double wishbone with coilover. Find wishbones/hub/hubcarrier. Tear out existing. Make new mounts. New steering rack setup.
Wake up realise it's all been a dreadful nightmare

I hope you're putting pen to paper or chalk to chalkboard or click to mouse.
We wanna see those ideas!

Oh and jc50942's s14's that rjl posted aren't finished at that point lowlyfe

I'm with the others on the front option (though getting much travel will be interesting).
If you beef it up enough I can't see why not...

they do look weak...but i been rocking the crap outta that truck for two drift seasons and no problems...no its not the best setup but it does work...and its not pretty either.

Range of travel was the biggest issue I could think of, but there are ways around That. I'm more about function rather than visual appeal. Of course not sloppy, but it doesn't have to look 'from the factory' for me. Just my opinion. i don't see it from behind the wheel anyways. And as far as the towers not being strong enough, that's what the fabricated mounts would be for. Simply an idea at this point, but one That would no doubt be unique, which is my main goal behind actual performance. I know it'll never be an s13 in handling terms. But it can be improved quite a bit over stock with a little creativity.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the coils coming through the bed are only to compensate for the length. The hole through the bed doesn't sacrifice the integrity or it, as the mounts are attached to the frame.

And im pretty sure jc's mount is now boxed in on 3 sides. Read his thread a long time ago, way before I actually joined the site, so my memory isn't the best. But drifting is very stressful on suspension. As he said, it's held up so it may not be the prettiest thing but its at least practical.
