cut the shape of the box.. put the box in and make sure its flush all the way around w/ your tailgate. Put your welder on a low temp and speed and just do tac welds one at a time allowing them to cool. You weld too fast it can warp sheetmetal.. so just do a spot weld.. cool.. spot weld on other side cool.. and continue in a star pattern.

im sure everyone means "tacking" when they say spot weld. because a spot welder and a regular welder are completely different. there is almost no way you would be able to "spot weld" one in. since you need copper electrodes on both sides of the piece of metal when using a spotwelder. but when you make it and put it whereever you want, just tack in each corner (4) then wait till the welds are cool to the touch. then tack in the middle of each side. then wait till those are cool to the touch. then tack in 8 places inbetween the corner tack and middle tack. just keep tacking in the middle of the last tacks. untill you completelty weld it in. yes it takes a LONG time but thats what has to be done. but always wait till they are cool to the touch before tacking more. if you go to fast you will know it because your tailgate will warp and look like the ocean. then you gotta get a new tailgate because it is impossible to get warped metal back. or use 2 cans of bondo and just fill in the warps

^^ haha - yea hes going to try and get his mates mig - but he seems to reckon he can do it on the spot welder at his work. ie just take the tailgate off.
