After stipping off everything on my truck bed I had some left over surface rust.

I know I should sandblast it so it doesnt f up the new paint but I don't have a sand blaster.

My brother saw the other day a type of chemical you spray on and it eats out all the rust on the entire area. Then I would simply fill all the indents and paint..

Would this work?

Any other ideas?

thanks,
Zac

My experience with chemical rust removers is that its garbage. If you only have small spots, snap-on makes a spot blasting gun that is awesome for smaller jobs. It comes with rubber tips (of different shapes and sizes, eg. wedge, flat, 90, etc) and you just press it against the metal and blast with NO mess. It has a tank at the top for fresh sand and a catch bag at the botton for the used shit, all self contained. To resuse the sand just put a screen over a bucket and pour it through. Works amazing and best thing is that its only about $50 and snap-on so lifetime warranty.

They used to make some stuff called "naval jelley".Not to get lint out of ur belly button but to use on ships at sea to remove rust.Damn stuff was powerful as heck and literally ate rust off any metal surface.Dont know if it is still available but it was the best stuff i ever used.BJ

if its just surface rust why not just DA it or sand it off with like some 180 or 220 grit sandpaper.

Well It is more like rust in the spot welds and the scrapes along the bottom of the rockers.. Otherwise I would.
