lots of sanding and some body filler are your friends.

any product that claims to stop rust doesn't

ive used the permatex product, a plasticoat product and some other that was like por ### or something

they all sucked asssss big time. they slowed the rust but didn't stop it.

angle die grinder and a 36 grit 1 or 2 inch disk works minty.

there are some chemical rust removers but its realy just a type of acid after which you have to clean that off then prep and prime and paint porducts like POR15 will not stop rust it will slow it way down but it will still rust out

P0R-15 is amazing stuff..me and my dad have used it on many muscel car restos and rust nevver came back..as it dries it draws all the oxygen outy of the mettal and ox out of the metal then when it cures it is its sealed..no oxygen = no oxidizing .it aint cheap though about 50 bucks a quart amd do NOT GET THIS SHIT ON YOUR SKIN or you will be looking at black hands for about a week

Go to your local Princess Auto - they have cheep sand blasters - spot blasters there that will work (use it and then take it back when done and say it didn't work for ya).

just a note on sand blasting..

1st - Wear a respirator if using a system that allows the dust to escape into the air.

Silica / quartz dust is created when the sand particle hits the surface, and if it enters your lungs it will create scare tissue. Many have died in that industry from the repeated use with out a mask. Alsop use a good paint style respirator, not some cheap dust mask you buy 10 for a $1.

2nd - Use a good grade sand that is very fine. This will help keep down the issues with a clogged nozel, etc.

3rd - Walmart has a cheap option for sandblasting - it's like $12, but is designed for a large area use, not spot jobs for paint chips, etc.

4th - Navel Jelly does work, but it will be hard on any finish that you place it on, so if trying to do a rock chip or somthing like that, forget it.
