Bumpers are factory safty equipment and usually it is not legal to remove them. If anything comes from the factory without a bumper though, nobody can say anything about it. Sounds like he needed something to be an ass about.

I know in TN (or around my part) if you take your bumper off you need to put something behind the rollpan to act as a bumper most peeps add some C channel behind the rollpan. Its mainly so if you get hit in the rear end it will help keep your truck from acting like a spear and stop them

It's a Mazda...it'll crumple up like a paper bag in an accident.

I don't see anything wrong with taking the back bumper off,the entire bed is just dead space anyways, the entire thing up to the cab acts like your back bumper really.

If im not mistaken i dont think every Mazda that was made had a rear bumper on it unless other people are taking them off i see them all the time with the stock rollpan and no rear bumpers

well, that's not entirely true.

the spear part is going to be the frame, and yes it happens with high impact crashes

From what I remember, it was okay to do. As long as you take the whole bumper assembly off with it. That means the rails the bumper bolts onto. The rails are not apart of the frame and all you need is either an impact gun or a breaker bar! Haha, cause mine was a rusty SOB! If you continue to keep the rest of the bumper assembly on, it is illegal not to have bumpstops. Little rubber things that go over them... But thats just cheezy lookin'.

I'm also from TN and got stopped (for runnin a red light) and received a warning about not having a bumper (and just a warning for runnin the light too). I have the factory looking rollpan with the rubber stops in the holes. But Pont was right all you have to do is have something to absorb impact I'm planning on installing a hidden hitch behind the license plate.

Yea thats what im doing as well and Im gone get a flip up plate holder as well. And most modern trucks without bumpers still have something that will act like a stop so the frame rails done act like spears
