wow, that is fantastic. I like the little skirt idea that flows with the fenders, that's pretty cool.

That is gonna look cool as hell and totally different from everyone else's! I'm not much of a fan of the Toyota bumpers becase they don't look 'right' on the Mazdas. I'm just sticking with a stock chrome bumper and painted valance and end caps.

I'm hoping Santa brings me a MIG welder for Christmas, because I told him about the one on sale at Crappy Tire, lol.

Thanx fer the props mang.
I dont like the toy bumper either eveyone has it and Ive never liked it, if this turns out as I expect it will be totally different from everyone Ive seen

And, yeh I should have waited for the sale on the mig coulda saved $100.00 oh well

lol...what kind of welder as you using? Is it any good? I just need to do minor bodywork like patching holes and welding in a roll pan.

What kind of finish are you going to make the bumper? painted or re-chrome the entire thing? or both?

Well at Crappy Tire you can buy a little Mig flux core lincoln by the name of handy core 100.
The handy core 100, is what i'm currenty using and its fine for sheet.
It runs off of 110v and will weld up to 1/8" thicknesses. for what it sounds like ya want to do, it would be more than sufficient, it does not control a very clean bead as opposed to a gas assist unit, but it is a good starter mig.

Mang, (m e ng), is short for man, loosely used in jive talk, or slang as a way if being informal but friendly, a term one would use as a title for an aquaintance.

Yeh bro, I called ya mang.

LOL

i'd disagree. personally i think a flux core welder is pretty much no good because it produces a really messy weld. a welder with gas produces a much cleaner weld, good for the metal finishing. less paint prep etc.

okay????????
for a starter , on a budget, who wants to do a roll pan and some minor body work, for non proffessional or commercial use, I would repeat myself but whatever.
If you had a pro shop and your equipment was used to make you a living, Of course you would go with a bigger gas assist unit.
He is not worried about a little more prep time compared to spending that kinda moola for something hes not using that much, mikey, am I right?
This unit I am using is great for tacking sheetmetal. Be careful with your heat and take your time.
If you want a bigger welder go for it, For what mikey said he needed he should be fine with my suggestion.

My 110 mig has worked well for sheet metal. Just stitch it up and a little grind. I do need to get the gas setup for it tho.

looks like your making good progress on the bumper, be sure to post pics when finished.

as for welders, i use a flux, and i have this lincoln crap i soak my tips in and it tends to work well for getting rid of the slag issues, much cleaner
