Totally Different Paint...

I know you have all heard of Line-X, Rhino Liner, Herculiner, etc....

All companies that deal in bed liner materials! Anyways, I recently met up with a long lost friend of mine that has an older Jeep. CJ-5 or Willy's model!

He wanted to do something different with his paint! To make a long story short he painted the WHOLE EXTERIOR of his JEEP with a LINE-X brand liner....

Crazy you would think, but get this it is PURPLE/BLUE in COLOR. Almost like a a Candy type of Automotive Paint!

So, anyways what would you guys think of a mazda, or any mini with a FULL LINE-X EXTERIOR????

I have already settled on paint for my mini, but just a thought for down the road or other mini-truckers!

Let me know what your thoughts are???

You can get that stuff in any color you want. They can mix it to any shade. I used to work with a friend spraying them in. We did some with logos in the center of the beds in different colors. They can even match you factory paint so you bedliner matches and you dont even notice it.

I plan on spraying my rockers on my daily driver with it since we go offroading in it. Im going to get it color match so it doesnt stand out.

Whats your thoughts about doing the exterior of a mini??

For a show truck I would say no... bad idea. You could get away with crappy body work though since it would cover it up pretty well. lol

For a daily driver or a weekend warrior it might not be a bad idea. We all hack something off of the truck eventually and atleast it would be coated and not rust.

I guess it all depends on the look you you want and it would definatly be different.

For a daily or mild show ride I would say go for it. Fantomrush - if you can do a logo in the bed, why not graphics down the side? An interesting twist would be textured exterior panels but a perfectly smooth bed. Or maybe just a satin finished black hood. Many options.

That is exactly what I was thinking! If you threw twists in there like that you have to get some credit at shows and stuff!

Even a two tone paint job, or mask off some flames....the possibilities are endless!

Yeah you can do graphics. I have done flames before in a bed and they didnt look great. Its hard to blend the colors and its almost impossible to make sharp points without waiting for the colors to completely cure between coats. That could take up to a week depending on weather. You have to cut the sharp points out of the color you did before.

Its also difficult to tape it off since the stuff is so thick. When you remove the tape there is a good chance the coating will peal and not leave a straight like like paint does. The way be did logos was to lay it out and spray around it and overlap the design a little. After it set up for a while we took razor blades and cut out the overlap and peeled it out. Tape over the first section sprayed and spray the design. Basically repeat that process if the design has more colors.

one of my friends had a jeep cherokee that he did that to but it was just black. it looked pretty cool because it was lifted and had big tires and stuff on it. If you did it to your truck I would make sure thats what you want because it doesn't come off.

You can get it off, but its a lot more work than most people want to do. We've had to scrap off other liners that customers weren't happy with to respray for them. We used grinders with brass wire wheels in them. It took it out, but it isnt very fun. lol

my jeep is 2toned with black and dark grey line-x, from a distance you cant really notice its not paint, really cool thing is you can beat the living Sh!t out of it and it still looks decent, mine has been laid on its side and drug against rocks and it takes alot to chip/scratch the line-x
