Heres mine I've had it done for about 4-5 years, it needs some tweakn but it keeps people from throwing trash into the back of the truck. Its got a steel frame, and 1/8th" aluminum sheet, I plan on refinishing it for my other truck.

lol love the auto hinges in that KillerB Open and shut like a hood hehe.

I'm buying the checkmate cover listed above, from him . Future plans will probably be to use a sheet of 1/8" aluminum over the checkmate frame with some tweaking so I'll then have a hard cover.

I looked into building my own...even bought the wood for the top, but honestly by time you buy everything, and what ever you're gonna cover it with...be it paint or vinyl, it's just too much to justify not buying a new one.

I was gonna go as cheap as possible, but wanted it to sit flush in the bed. So I was gonna use some aluminum 1" angle iron in strategice places for support, and bolt the wood cover to it. Then, cuz I need some kind of something over the wood, I thought about that bathroom wall covering from Home Depot, to cover it. Also thought about actually covering it with black vinyl with some batting under it to make it a lil plush...very little, like 1/8", but heck the vinyl alone was almost $100!

The wood I think was $15 for 4x8 sheet of the stuff like you'd do door panels from...maybe a lil better quality than that. Needed 2 sheets. $30+/-, about 4-6 sticks of the angle iron aluminum at I think around $12 a stick, so that's another $48-$72. Then to cover it, about $70-$80 I think. So I would have had $150-$180 in it without even having the lifting system designed yet

You can buy a new checkmate above for like $160 plus the shipping, so figure around $200. Later on add a sheet of aluminum for like $50 (idk really), and have someone tack it to the existing frame, or modify however needed for another $50 or so. Then have it painted for sasy $100...not spray can crap, and you'd have less than $350 in a hard top cover

So buying the one above, for me, is a deal at $130 Just can't wait to get it on!

Btw, checkmate sells their fiberglass one for $359, but I'd bet you'd pay $100-$175 for shipping alone. So I'll stick with my aluminum idea

Oh yeah, I like the 3rd brake light Killer. That's a good idea imo.

killerb, nice work on the tonneau! The hinges are sweet and I like the 3rd brake light mounted on top.
