safer paint product!?

oh i know that autoair isn't water based.



yeah the laws haven't been passed, but i'm guessing they are on thinking why not start early on something that is going take over soon enough. our main paint guy has been raving about water based paints for a while now

i remember there was a good article on water base in truckin' or minitruckin' a year or more ago.

I have that one....I have used the auto air for a few projects...they have some very awesome colours, mostly due to the fact that the water based binder/carrier agent is way clearer than the current solvent based ones.

But they go on rather grainy, and I find that I have to clear them let the clear set, then sand them smooth and reclear. The nice thing is that they have no real window with which to clear, and that they are force dryable with a heatgun which is great for airbrushing. They do serve a purpose, but I cannot see them becoming mainstream refinish products for at least 10 years, at least up here.


And just out of curiosity what do you really need to change to use water based paints in a bodyshop over solvent based(borne) paints....

i am not 100% sure, but i will ask this saturday. i know he has been to a conference and a couple courses about them

i thought he said by 2010 every shop should be water based, and it will be illegal to sell anything different.

again i'm not 100% sure so i'll find out more.

so i asked our paint guy a couple times now, and he just ends up rambling on about stuff i don't really understand.....

but i picked up a sata news paper that is 7 pages deep of stuff about waterborne.

it says that environment canada has proposed a stop sale and stop import date of Jan 1 2009 on non water borne coatings..........you can prolly pick on of these papers up at a jobber that sells sata.
