painting problem

i painted my fenders about a week ago and i had a big problem today. i went to put my emblems on and i was using tape as a guide i first tested the tape on the lower part of the fender and exactly what i thought but didn't want, happened. it peeled the paint off. WHY? i sanded with 180 grit and cleaned the surface with degreaser. the paint says to use 2:3 with the approved thinner so i mixed 2 parts paint to 3 parts thinner. now the paint was coming out of the gun pretty shitty but looked badass when it dried. and it isn't coming off everywhere just on certain areas. any ideas?


oh and this is just a cheap hotrod black primer that i bought at oreilly auto parts. don't know if that is my problem but it could be.

try using an adhesion promotor next time. I use bull dog on almost everything I spray.

even metal? i thought you just use that on plastic?

Typically, When paint comes off or peels off, Is because it was "too smooth" In those areas. Not enough texture for the paint to stick

it can be used as a flex agent on plastic, but it is also used as an adhesion promoter. Are all the paint pops over bare metal? filler? primer? or multiple surface types? Also you said it is a cheap hot rod black primer, Is it a urethane? What brand is it exactly? Any chance you mixed it wrong? Especially since it sprayed bad out of your gun. What size tip is in your gun? 2:3 ratio seems wierd to me, but I use the same couple manufacters all the time so I wouldnt know what other brands require

Washing it with thinners or mineral spirits would have helped. If you don't there will be a layer of dust from sanding that will stay on there. Could have been a problem with the paint but most likely prep.
