i have a friend that had 2 mazdas and they were both primered with some kind of PPG primer but some how he had a color mixed into it. does anyone know how to do this? or any other ways or creating a decent colored primer that will last me a while.

You can use white primer and just mix some color in with it.

i'm using Transtar Gray Primer on my truck, all you do is mix an activator with it, i'm sure you can just mix a base color to tint the shade and add until your get the desired color. not that you'll get anything bright out of it.

it's a 4 to 1 ratio on the primer and activator

I used a grey base ...i think it was PPG.....i was told you should not excede 17% of color to the primer but we kept adding green until we got the LIGHT MINT color I was looking for....funny thing is....it didnt start really working until we started adding the darker greens...like a hunter green....so to tint yours blue...I would suggest a dark color blue to mix in the grey...here is a pic of my 96 Ranger with 03 front clip primered mint green

I dont know if youve looked into hot rod flatz but they have alot of colors and you can get a gallon kit of it for around 150 bucks. Itll hold up against the elements better than primer. Its something to think about I guess.

so what kind of color do you add like food coloring haha JK.. or paint??

I use epoxy primer and have had them add color to it just tell your local paint shop the color you are going with on the truck and they will be able to get the primer as close to what you need but just remember that primer is great but you have to cover it if that is how you are going to run the truck as primer loves to suck up moister if not properly sealed.
