that's not a jdm thing. hot roderrs have been doing it for years. it looks really badass if done right. there is a guy in cali (can't remember his name) he is on one of the lowlife videos, his whole front end is molded together and on an actuator system. it lifts forward. pretty badass. i think max at biomax kustums did it. but not sure.

you guys are on the right track with the cracks, but most of the time it's heat causing the cracks in the steel/fiberglass molded area. The heat up in the sun at two different temperatures and expand at different rates. This is why Ed in the Nevada sun see's it in a much shorter time frame than some one farther north or at least not so damn hot every day...lol

the truck you are talking about is called mother ship and it is welded up like that....and one way to get the cab and bed to WORK for little bit longer anyways is to rise the floor then put body bushings under it to take the flex,make a mini frame to weld the bed to the cab so it is strong and can take the flexing of the cab over the frame
