oh, and the grey shiny stuff is sealer I shot the whole thing in when I got it to preserve it while I did other things, like build a garage, lol

So, stripping it all down to metal and going from there,

was taken down to bare metal, then I spot treated some areas with neutraliser, and used inhibiting primer, just a dusting really, the black stuff is the neutraliser, I didnt spray on top of any rust, obviously, but i ground out what I could see, then to be sure......so no tiny pits come back to haunt me. lol

over the wheel arches in the typical areas, I cut out the affected area made filler pieces and welded em in

bed sides outer skin is all that remains of the box, and tubing is the new structure,

oh I forgot to mention, the whole bed was coated in rubberised rocker guard, I had to scrape it all off, that sucked, ya ca see it on the tailgate a little in this pic, I had to use the angle grinder very gingerly to get it all off, then use a whipple disc on the remnants of it.

Oh and you can see the shaved gas door there also. on the inside pic, the top o the box is now shaved too, as well as the panel joined body gaps, all welded in,
I went with 16 g on the top o the bed, waaay cheaper than a tonneau cover, and cleaner too.
Keeping the bed weight down is a challenge, I used thin wall 1" square tubing fer that.
I have the sheet metal top welded and seam sealer is also used so there will never be a vibration, rattling down the road side effect lol.

A lot of guys used angle iron, but that is far too heavy, and not a structurally beneficail
