does anybody actually know why the door locks pop up when you close it though?
i really dont remember how all those bars were setup before i ripped them all out.
what really makes it differant from a door that stays locked when you close it?

So people who are d-a's wont get out of their trucks and lock their keys in the truck.U have to think about pushing the lock down and then lifting the handle and
maybe go "DUH-my keys are in there" first,or lock the truck with your keys .

that doesnt answer the question...

I think it does because that is why the locks are designed the way they were. But if u want the tech explanation, when u press the lock button down, then hold the exterior door handle up, that disengages the lock mechanism from the ratchet that hits the striker plate when u close the door,Thus the door stays locked. If you dont hold it up, the lock mechanism stays engaged and when the ratchet hits the striker plate the lock pops up and the door stays open.Better?BJ

now thats the explanation i was looking for!
haha. i was trying to picture everything in my head from what i remembered but it wasnt coming out that great.

So then, to be able to push the button down and shut the door & have it locked... what needs removed/bent/broken/welded? I've been driving almost daily for 8 years and havn't locked my keys in any of the 5 vehicles I've owned. It's absolutely fantabulous that someone knows the retarded design of it, but to me it's as good as broken because it doesn't work right. And of course someone is going to say "but it works perfectly". Well not perfectly for me.

I may be wrong (and I have been before) but unless u figure out a way to disengage the door lock button from the rest of the lock mechanism, so u can lock with key only, there isnt any way I know of that the locks will work in a way different than the factory designed them.U could just remove the lock button and the long wire that connects it to the lock mecanism, shut the doors and lock with the key. That seems to me to be u r only choice other than doing as the factory intended.BJ

i agree with you bj. because if you try to remove it, i dont think it the door will lock at all.
i would either do an automatic door lock kit or weld the handle bar to the door lock bar. therfore you will just have to lock it with your key. but then again, you can do that without making any changes at all.
