I just finished mounting a 6.4" monitor in my dash where the heater controls and 2 vents were. I removed the heater controls and took off both "pull wires" (one for fresh air or recirculate, and one of defog, vent, etc). The one for fresh air was long enough to reach the glove box where they will now be located but the one for the defog, etc. is way too short. I was wondering what you have used to lengthen these wires? I was thinking of a bike brake cable but didn't know if there was a better way. Let me know what you used and how you did it. Thanks.

I've never extended one personally. The bike cable probably wouldn't work because they are made to just pull & the heater controls have the solid wire that can go either way. One off a 91ish Izuzu might be a good candidate. They are long enough to go from the middle of the dash to behind the glove box. Put a R/C servo on it. That would be awsome! Hope my .02 helps!

That's a really good idea. That would probably solve your problem.

How much did you pay for that screen? I've been looking to buy a flat panel screen but not sure where to look.

what about going to like lowes or your local hardware store and getting a piece of round stock the same dia. as the on that came off of there and making it work. by the way that shits gonna look sic when its done. ive been thinking of doing something like that but i wanted to get all vaccum controlls like the ones on a new mazda or ford to controll the vents and knobs.

Haha.... the screens actually just a cheap monitor called Qlogic got off of eBay. The case is huge and looks like shit but all you have to do is take it appart and mount just the screen. Then you can mount the board anywhere you have room behind the dash. I got lucky and the ribbon cable was long enough. If you look closely at the pic you can see the green board in a static bag behind the monitor. The little chip hanging on the top right side by the green yellow and red wires is the remote eye. The picture quality is amazing and I have been using these monitors for about 2 years. If you keep checking you can find no reserve auctions for about $40-$50.

i was just thinking, try a hyundai accent or somthing along those line, i know they have long cables, i know this cuz i have to pull them off to change the decks and u can unscrew the control panel from the dash panel and mount the whole thing in the glove box itself, cut a hole in the side of the box and u might be able to use the the unit in the truck, you'll have 3 knobs, hot/cold, fresh/rec. and floor/vent/window

Hey man, I relocated my controls like that about a year ago, and I just went to my local hardware store & bought a longer piece of round stock & a longer piece of the plastic tubing to keep it from binding up, ya know. heres a pic of it...

That's a nice looking moniter . Thos i'm looking for something cheap because if it gets stolen i won't be sooo mad about it .

I don't even mind going to a bit of a smaller screen size.

(sorry to high-jack this thread)

Guys, a good screen to use is the one for PSone. They are 5inch, readily accept composite and can be made to hook to a computer. $20-$30 all day long on ebay. Popular item among PC modders.
