spray it down, and lay the tweed right over the stock headliner. or get some of that think foam 1/8 inch, or 1/4 inch and put that on first, then go overtop with the tweed

i see whats hes talking bout you could just try and put it over but the prob with that is our headliners are suspended in midair they dont have foam between them i ended up pulling the stock headliner out and sewing loops for the rods in mine but then i didnt use tweed either i used a type of valuar
ive also seen the flat headliner its doable just takes some work and some thinking i really didnt feel like thinking lol

heres a pic of my new headliner

you can always make a hard headliner and add some designs.that's what i did in my truck.

as far as i know if the headliner has a cardboard formed base, you can peal the foam and fabric that is on it off and then use a sander to clean all the left over foam off the cardboard. then use new 1/8 or 1/4 inch foam and glue it to the carboard, then glue the tweed on top of that. use upholstery glue, spray it on both surfaces, let it get tacky and then press them togather. it shouldnt be to hard post pics if you start doin it

the 86-93 mazda's dont' have a cardboard backing to them.they have a rods that support the headliner.

oh, well then sew up a new headliner with the channels you need to slide the rods into, basicly i would say split the seams on yout old headliner, use those pieces for templets and sew up a new one that is exactly yhe same as the original
