Okay guys, well I think its about time I get some tunes in the ol' mini

I am not stupid when it comes to audio, but I could use some help here...

I am looking to get something clean/simple without breaking the bank...

Here is what I have come up with:

10" Sub (I have only had JL Audio, what else is out there?)
Amp
Component System

So I am not into spl just quality bass/sound...Like I said I have only ever owned JL Audio so I don't know what other brands out there are good!

Its all going in my standard cab B2200....Duh!

So let me know what you guys think I should throw in there?

I just installed some of the shallow mount pioneer 12's in my buddies 88 mazda standard cab. They sound damn good and clear. Small box requirements and the seats are still all the way back hes a tall guy so he needs the leg room. I seen your 20's on CL good luck on the sale.

Eh? well, lol, how much you got to spend? Are you trying to fit them behind the seats or does it matter how much space you take up?

Well to throw you ideas, if you go just one sub, you could make it a ported box which could be made to fit behind the seats and accomodate space for the amp.

If I were you, SQL comes name brand. Obviously, I would look at Focal first. Especially components. Then on come Eclipse, JL, kicker, MTX Rockford Fosgate.

Try this link:

Do some more research and see what you like. Look at the thiele small perameters!

More RMS wattage, the better!

i don't buy pioneer anymore, i have had way to many problems with their products and customer service. but earthquake makes a shallow sub too. it sounds badass. i want to get them for the 83 when the time comes. as for the components, i would go with infinity. but i don't know about the amps man. i like jl audios multi channel amps.

i agree on the infinity

What type of music do you regularly listen to? For rock / country I would suggest a single 10" in a sealed box, for Rap/hip hop I would suggest a Single 10" in a ported box, for Techno / dance maybe try a pair of 8"s in a sealed box. You could always go with more / bigger depending on how creative you want to get and how much space you have to work with (buckets, bench, leg room etc...). For front stage I would forget about the 4" in the dash as they are placed horribly and will never give you great sound (just my opinion)so build a set of 6.5"s or 5 1/4" components into the doors or kick panels.

As for brands everyone has an opinion, but the best way to look at it might be to say, "you get what you pay for". So decide roughly what you are willing to spend and look at all the different brands in your price range and really listen to them. Most good shops will have demo vehicle or at least a car in the install bay that you can listen to. ( the boards in the shop suck for showing you how they really sound in an auto environment). Listen to your friends systems, try to listen to the different speakers separately, see what you like.

Also try not to let someone try to sell you on a subs wattage alone, If you want to listen to your music for an extended period of time and want to enjoy the music itself you have no real need to be running anything more than 600-800watts total in your system. Again no offense to anyone, just my two pennies( I have over 3000 watts in my truck and it is overkill to listen to really loud for any extended amount of time)

Sorry for being preachy but autosound is just kind of a passion for me

If you like JL they do make some very nice sounding components but I have heard some mixed reviews on their amps( great sound, poor reliability). MTX, good bang for buck, Rockford great amps, well underrated. Eclipse, great head units, not a fan of speakers. Xtant, really nice stuff, amps sound phenomenal but are kind of complicated to install, speakers made by Morel. Coustic makes some nice stuff with a great price, Phoenix Gold, Focal, Soundstream, ETC...I could go on forever but I think i've blabbed on enough. Sorry for the long post

I've had, and have kicker, orion, jl, fosgate, powerbass, and a FEW other brands.

Kicker - insult it, pound on it daily, it'll survive. Not the cleanest, but definately holds up to the RMS, especially in sealed boxes. (by the way, a CVR 12, in a behind the seat truck box....sounds VERY nice) I have the '01 solobarics, that were DESIGNED FOR SMALL SEALED ENCLOSURES...need I say more? Dual 8 ohm. And I have a Kicker ZR600 that does 600+ at 4 ohm mono. Imagine that. 300wrms to each 12 behind the seat of a mini? Yeah, I can imagine it'd be nice.

Powerbass - Pretty much same as kicker subs, but the higher lines (Xtreme) will dominate with SPL. I have 2-15s D1, and they are MONSTERS...plain and simple. They broke the roof of my silverado, that was triple deadened, and the subs were in an Off-Spec ported box, so they werent doing NEAR what they could. (plus my 2100 was at 1.5 ohm mono) I had the cheap lines, which is now the M series, just PB on the cone, they sound VERY VERY good in small sealed box. Better than the CVRs I think. Their components are CHEAP as FUCK and sound DAMN good too. For less than $100 you can get 2-12s and a set of components. And not to mention their amps are ULTRA CLEAN. Look into them on eBay.

Rockford Fosgate (Punch) - I had 2 sets of components in my silverado. LOVED THEM. They have a dozen ways to mount the tweeters. Oh yeah, 2 tweeters per channel. 4 total. Yessir. Metal dome tho, but I think they were very smooth, unlike most others. I have NO complaints on them, as I am putting them in my Mazda.

I agree on Focal, to an extent. The lines thats over $400 a set sound fuckin awesome, ultra deep and nice midbass. But, I dont need my mids to slam, lol. These arent for budget minded. These are PURE SQ.

I say you go with an alpine pdx 1.600 or 1.1000 amp. They put out some serious power and come in a very compact size. There about 10.5 wide, 9 long and 2.5 tall. And for a sub or subs Id check with RE or FI. I know RE is coming out with a shallow mount sub. Ill be getting 2 of them when there released.
