Alright this has got me dumbfounded. I have never experienced this!

I'm going to include anything that may relate to this so that whoever the know it all is, can get a better idea of this!

Last week, I finished upgrading my power and ground wires to 0ga. Dist. block to amps are 4 ga. I welded a bolt the size of a streetwires locking ring terminal which is about 3/8" to my floorpan. Then I bolted my ground cable to it.

I drove about 50-60 miles on my commute back to work and I was curious to see if my ground point was hot. I BURNT my finger! AHHH! My amps light up and all and changed color to the beats, well, they both turned red and I heard a few "POP" sounds come from the subs. SO IMMEDIATELY I turned the system off.

I turned it back on in 15 or so minutes cause the ground point was ice cold. Everything worked fine. I noticed the nut for the ground was loose so I tightened her up.

Then today, I dunno when it happened, but after washing my truck I look to the back to see one amp lit up. One of the amps fuses were both blown! I went and got them replaced and then turned it on. It works and all but after it turns on, my amps are set at dark blue, it is a light blue and the sub makes a high pitch pulsating noise!

I called car toys and they think it may be the power supply in the amp?

DOES ANYONE know what the hell this is and how can I diagnose it?

If this don't work I guess I'll take it in and get it looked at. But I don't wanna pay $60 hr. for shop time!

hard to explain so ill say as simple as i know how to say it..... the body of the truck isn't designed to carry current.... a direct current system works in reverse.... the negative around to the positive..... your ground is having to work extra hard to make the circut complete.... try running your ground dirrectly to the battery.... hope this helps....

Well, I'll take that into consideration.

I have 2 amps, 1 per sub. ONLY 1 amp did this and the other works fine. BOTH amps go to the SAME dist. blocks for ground and power. This problem is isolated to just the AMP or SUB, I'm sure.

It has been a whole week since the I burnt my finger from the ground and it was never hot again after tightening the nut down.

I just included that since maybe I thought it could have really damaged the amp or sub and its become a problem now. I have also turned it up quit loud as well and have been listening to bass songs.

Although, I have kept volume levels low enough to not hear distortion.. LOL, but I'm going deaf so who knows!

I wouldnt ground direct to the battery but I would recommend drilling a hole through your floor pan and through a grommet ground directly to your frame. Make sure you grind your ground location to bare metal. Also make sure your ground cable from your battery to frame and battery to engine are solid. Hope that helps you out.

My battery has a 0ga. cable to the body. Which is bare metal. The ground for the sound system has a bolt that I welded to the floorpan completelt around it so rust cannot get in between. The metal was ground bare. It is a sweet ground point!

I'm looking for something along the lines I can use a DMM to test the sub and amp with. I can play around and check stuff, but I dunno what the heck I'm looking for. I might even have to open the amp up...

try to ground them seperatly insted of a distribution block. clean up the bolts that mount you seats they usealy a good spot to ground out an amp. any time you use a ground for more then one amp the amps usealy messes up on you.

Yes, everything except for using the seat bolts as grounds. Each amp should have its own 4 GA ground to its own location. Also use a couple pieces of 4 GA to ground your body to the frame at different points.

u can check the resistance of ur subs with an ohmmeter to see if the coil is burnt out!u have 2 ground ur amps directly to ur frame for the best possible ground,weld a bolt to it then connect ur grounds there instead of the floor!u might have blown ur power supply in ur amp's already because of the poor ground!correct ur ground first,then retry it,check ur sub's resistance,try some other sub's or speakers to double check ur amp's,if all else fail's u moer than likely blew the power supply!been there done that,not from ground issue's,overloading the amp!!!

...so my amp was still covered under the warranty. I took it to Car Toys and they are going to send it out to MTX for repair. He said its probably from turning it up too loud. One of their install guys said one of the transistors in the amp blew.

SO, not to self, don't freaking turn it up too loud! I'm going deaf anyways, lol...

I've got one sub to listen to atleast, for the next month, month 1/2!

They said the ground was okay.

I still don't get how it was just one amp that blew and not both... OH WELL, lol, I would rather have one blow than both! ...really none at all actually!
