Most of the tear down done.

The first cuts to clear out the dash a bit.

I had contemplated for a while about the heater controls and it seemed to me that the only logical place to mount them was through the dash. Both dials were removed from their original spots and remounted through the dash. I still have to make a bezel for it and fix the difference in height but then it should be fine. Point is they work.

They are tight but they just work.

For the heater control I removed the control unit and swapped the long and short cables; they swap over cleanly and will allow it to reach perfectly on the left of the glove box.

I cut the glove box and fit a 1/2" panel in the back. The controls mount in the panel.

Then I started cutting, unsure of how far I was planning to take this. I have a plan but am still working on the details. So I removed all the excess plastic.

The progress so far, not a whole lot but glad to have my heater working normally.

Then just for one last bit I decided to cut out the metal that had to be removed.

So for my first days work I removed about this much scrap..

this should be cool when done

why didnt you extend the wires and put the knobs in the glove box?
zaccutt   +1y
Mainly because it is much easier said then done. I would have had to extend the wires as well as replace the cable on the other dial, instead now it is just working with no hassle and I can still actually control my heat in the wonderful Canadian winters here.

Anyways I started getting the dash design started.

Looks like you got a good start on it.

Hey Zac, What head unit are you using and what screens do you have?

I would try I think that it is the Pioneer AVD 6000 and its $400 at 2001 Audio Video, etc. You may even find it for cheaper. That would give you everything you need at a good price and it has 4V preouts if you are running amp. 4volts aren't great but they should do for your application.

Here is a pic of what I was saying if you did use an external DVD player with a remote eye. All you would need is a slot for the CD?DVD and everything else is hidden.
