Tried that this morning, didnt make a difference. Thanks hunterw ill give that a go tomorrow and see what happens. Is it hurting anything when it is popping like that? Dont want to wreck anything. Sorry if it sounds like a dumb question but audio is not my thing.

sub is brand new, did this with both subs, and if i hook the full ranges through an amp off the rcas i get static and popping sounds.

hmmm it sounds like you may have a bad set of rcas h_b or a ground issue. i would get a new set of rcas and run them on the oopisite side of your power wire. keep them seperate as possible. and also when you make your ground scuff off all the paint and make the connection

i have had this problem in the past, i don't remember what i did but i do believe i bought a better set of rca's that i was running and it fixed my problem. but i don't remember for sure, i have had way to many systems to remember them all. haha. did you run your power wire down one side and the rca's down the other? if not then you should try that before spending any money. you always want to run your power wire as far away as possible from your rca's. also your ground going to the amp should be the same size or bigger than the power continuous that goes to the amp. just throwing that out there. grounds for stereo systems can make them do crazy things if they are bad grounds.

Yeah power wire is running down the drivers side of the truck and the rca's are running down the passenger side. 4 gauge power and ground wire. I think the sub may be blown now, it started making some weird sounds tonight. Sounds like something is rattling inside the sub.

Guy at work had the exact same problem changed his head unit from a Clarion to a Pioneer (to run his iPhone thru) and it started to pop whenever he moved the selector knob.
As it turns out the Rockford Fosgate amp was "only" earthed to the seatbelt bolt (sanded prior to fitment) and the first time he turned the Pioneer on it decided to earth itself through the head unit (or so the stereo shop guy says).
This cooked the RCA track and speaker track inside the headunit, frizzled the RCA's themselves and blew one of the channels inside the amp.

Sounds pretty far fetched if you ask me that all this happened due to a bad earth on the sub but who am I to argue.
The problem was fixed by servicing the 1 day old head unit, replacing all the cooked bits inside, new RCA's, new Monoblock amp and drilled a big hole in his floor, grinded the paint and fitted a big earth to the amp and the battery.
Lets just say it goes now, but it was a very expensive lesson on proper earthing of stereo gear.
