instrument lights not working

I am having the same problem as the OP. My tach and stuff works, but the lights are not coming on when I turn the headlights on. I checked all the fuses on the left side of the dash. I tried turning the dimmer switch up and down and nothing is happening. Any ideas??

ya man let see if i can find it, i know i still have it just not sure where i put it...lol..did you check the bulbs or meter the power wire and see if its getting power...

No not yet. I just got the truck up and running. I haven't really even looked into this problem yet... or how to take the cluster out. I was just wondering if this was a common problem and areas I should check.

im not sure about common, but its the first place i would look into when they do go out...lol

Well I finally got around to taking the trim off the cluster last night (you can tell this project is on the back-burner, lol). I used a multimeter and the plug that connects to the dimmer switch IS getting power, so my best guess is that the dimmer switch itself is bad. The clock works, and all the gauges and needles work on the cluster itself.

I sent dragginmazda86 (Dave) a PM because he said he has a dimmer switch laying around that he would sell me, but if I don't hear back from him, I'll try to get a hold of mazdaman82. I'll update this thread once I get that in. I hope that is the only problem!

You can alway bypass the dimmer switch...i took a piece of wire and made a bypass using spade crimp connecters only thing diff is your dash lights wont dim

Ah good call. Well dragginmazda86 (Dave) pulled through for me anyways and PM'd me back right away and sent it out on Friday. I'll get it hooked up sometime this week and report back if that fixes the problem.

The new dimmer switch that I got from Dave worked! Finally have instrument lights again! Wooooo!
