I just got done washing my running boards.. got most of my interior out now to prep for paint. Will show you the stuff i am using after i get a pic of it. I get it at my local building supply center.

You want some thing to clean the plastic really well. comet works well (instead of a specific stuff from a paint store) to take oils of it which is what you want. The whole flexible paint thing is kinda a myth. the paint only stays so flexible once the solvents are out of the paint they harden. and the primer wont flex because its not meant to it meant to harden to be sanded. and that is what will crack first off of the plastic.

Ill tell you how i did mine. I used red scotch and Presta scuff stuff to clean it then sanded it smooth and then sprayed it with plastic adhesion (sem makes a spary can version.)and then three coats of ppg primer sanded that smooth and sealed and painted it. so far so good.

I am using this primer:
thread post photo

step 1. washed the pieces with soap and water really well, rinsed and let dry without touching for a hour or so
step 2. I sprayed 2 coats of primer onto the pieces.
step 3. I will be spraying them with the same brand of paint but in blue.
step 4. I will use clear coat to finish it off.

I am leaving the texture on my pieces, I like the look of it. Hope this helps you out more.
