You have a ton of room for Power Steering on the motor . Want pictures of how it is done in extremely tight spaces on a SBC or SBF . My aluminum steering pump fits in my palm it is so small

As for the Rack and Pinion . You can get racks for Quite cheap that have the Steering shaft located at any area you would like . So the narrowed frame will not matter .

everything i found when i searched fit certin models. i didnt look real hard. but im not overly concerned with having power steering or a rack and pinon. what i have setup will work. plus having the steering shaft wont help with the tight issue i have of the headers, frame rail and control arms.

ive started mocking up my headers. i will show you in a bit.

here are some pictures to show how tight it is. remeber i cant run the primary tubes anyother ways. ive thought of all i can. and on the passenger side they cant be in the way of the starter. no they are just mocked up. havent been completly weld'd or ground smooth. but here it goes.

to start here is how the front of the driver side. had to run the front tube down, beside the oil pan and out to the collector. it will have to be slip fit'd together so i can remove the headers without pulling the motor if i have to.

heres how it looks from the back. i had to have the tubes hug the motor and trany as much as possible because that it where the foot feet are. im trying not to lose a ton of feet room.

the collector difference. cant build a tranny xmember untill i find where the exhaust will pass under.

how it looks from the front on the passenger side. cant go under the motor because of the starter.

heres how the tubes are ran here. im having the exhaust shop bend me up some more tubes. used up all i bought. passenger feet room dont matter. im not riding there hahaha..

barelt enough room for the sterring rod. that is all. ive thought of everything else. looked at my dads rack and pinon on his chevelle. tryed mocking up something that would work with his old one that was laying outside. only way is if the steering shaft points forward. if not the tierods will hit all kinds of crap. everything has to stay close.

i narrowed my front clip too and i'm running a manual rack and pinion from a 70's mustang, but that's beside the point. i think you'd have more issues with finding a rack now that its worth, because you'd have to find the perfect width and mount it in just the right spot to prevent bumpsteer (or toe out when you air down)
i still can't believe your gettin er done with 24's and a SBC. i thought my shit was tight.
my steering collumn came outta the firewall right into my a arms too.
things you can do to get around the steering collumn issue:
a: section your steering collumn.
b: purchase a new shorter one from flaming river or ididit. not sure about flaming river but i've dealt with a lot of ididit ones and they're super easy to install and they make most collumns with a GM steeringwheel spline so its real easy to find wheels. and the best part they can custom make them in damn near any length above like 8 inches or something rediculously small.
in true minitrucker fashion i am broke and i sectioned mine like 9.5 inches and made another mount under the dash for it so its still solid.

and i just have to say HOLY PIE CUTS on those header tubes!!!

do you have any pictures of your setup man? sounds like i can section it but i think i will still be in the arm with the steering rod no matter what with the headers.

ya, building headers is a bitch. pie cuts ALL day on them! but i kept them pretty close so it shouldnt mess with the foot feet space to bad. at least i hope. hahaha.
